I got to know Doug and his family when they moved in next door to my parents. Doug was always helpful and kind and went out of his way to help them when he could. When my mom "escaped" from the nursing home where she was living, she ended up at Doug's house. They called me at my house on the coast and helped me get mom back where she was supposed to be. He was not a high school friend, but he was definitely a friend.
